Dar City targets stronger return after BAL quarter-final exit

Dar City Basketball Club has pledged to come back stronger in future international competitions following its elimination from the Basketball Africa League (BAL).

The team returned to Tanzania from Rwanda after bowing out at the quarter-final stage of the Basketball Africa League, where they were defeated by Angola’s Petro de Luanda.

Despite the early exit, club officials say the campaign provided important lessons that will shape the team’s future development and competitiveness on the continental stage.

Speaking on the team’s performance, Dar City Vice President Ladislaus Ikungura said the club has gained valuable experience from competing at a higher level and is now focused on building a stronger squad for upcoming challenges.

He noted that both the technical bench and players have carefully reviewed their performance and identified key areas that need improvement, including tactical discipline, consistency, and game management in high-pressure matches.

“This year we did not achieve our goal of reaching the final. We were eliminated by Petro de Luanda in the quarter-finals, but the experience we have gained is very important for our growth,” said Ikungura.

He added that participation in the BAL exposed the team to intense competition and higher standards of basketball, which will be used as a benchmark for future preparations.

According to him, the club is now working on strengthening its technical setup and improving player readiness ahead of future international assignments.

Ikungura also called on stakeholders in the sports industry to increase their support for Dar City, stressing that the club remains open to partnerships that can help improve its structures and long-term sustainability.

He said stronger collaboration from both public and private partners will be crucial in developing talent, improving facilities, and ensuring the club competes more effectively in continental tournaments.

Although Dar City’s journey ended at the quarter-finals, the team impressed at several stages of the competition, showing potential that management believes can be built into future success.

The club has reaffirmed its commitment to using the experience gained in the BAL as a foundation for rebuilding and returning stronger in upcoming editions, with the ambition of reaching the latter stages of continental competitions and representing Tanzania more competitively on the African basketball stage.
