Global air charter specialist Chapman Freeborn has successfully delivered a time-critical shipment of oversized oilfield equipment from China to Saudi Arabia, helping a client in the energy sector avoid operational disruptions amid ongoing global shipping delays.
The operation, carried out by the company—part of Avia Solutions Group—involved transporting 90 tonnes of industrial cargo, including pumps, precision spare parts, and oversized units measuring up to eight metres in length.
The shipment was arranged after the client faced urgent stock shortages due to persistent bottlenecks in global shipping and airfreight networks.
To meet the tight deadline, the cargo was flown using a Boeing 747 freighter, selected for its ability to handle heavy and outsized freight on its main deck.
However, the operation encountered early logistical challenges. Fuelling constraints at the original departure airport in China forced the team to reroute the cargo inland to an alternative location.
Chapman Freeborn coordinated overnight trucking and managed the full freight forwarding process to ensure the shipment remained on schedule.
Further pressure came from limited aircraft availability, complex routing requirements, and strict slot coordination at the destination in Saudi Arabia.
Teams across multiple locations worked around the clock to manage these constraints and maintain the timeline.
The cargo arrived as planned, enabling immediate onward transportation and preventing disruption to the client’s ongoing oilfield operations.
Ronny Samaey, Cargo Charter Manager at Chapman Freeborn, said the mission required precise coordination across different regions, from arranging overnight trucking in China to securing final approvals in Saudi Arabia.
Gerhard Coetzee, Vice President Cargo for the IMEA region at the company, noted that tight market capacity continues to challenge logistics operations, making flexibility and coordination essential for delivering time-sensitive projects.
With more than 50 years of experience, Chapman Freeborn provides air charter services for corporations, governments, NGOs, and relief agencies worldwide.
Through its parent company, Avia Solutions Group, it operates within a global aviation network spanning six continents, supported by a workforce of over 14,000 professionals and a fleet of 145 aircraft.
The latest operation underscores the company’s ability to manage complex, time-critical cargo movements by combining global coordination with local execution.
