Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila has visited the headquarters of the Tanzania Football Federation in Ilala, Dar es Salaam, where discussions focused on football development, youth programmes and preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Speaking during the visit, Chalamila said Tanzania’s recent football achievements, including the qualification of the national Under-17 team for the FIFA U-17 World Cup and the progress of the women’s Under-20 national team, reflect ongoing efforts to strengthen sports development in the country.

He also referred to the growing competitiveness of the NBC Premier League and the performance of Tanzanian clubs in international competitions as indicators of the sector’s expansion.

Chalamila said the government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan continues to invest in sports infrastructure and youth empowerment through various initiatives linked to national development and preparations for AFCON 2027.

He noted that the government is improving roads, electricity, water supply, security systems and digital infrastructure in Dar es Salaam as part of broader efforts to prepare the city to host international visitors during the tournament.

The Regional Commissioner also addressed infrastructure challenges facing Karume Stadium and the federation’s offices, saying he plans to convene a meeting involving municipal councils and private sector stakeholders to discuss possible improvements to the facilities.

He further assured residents that security remains stable in Dar es Salaam and that the government continues to safeguard citizens and their property without discrimination based on political affiliation, religion or ethnicity.

Commenting on the recent incident involving a Chinese national allegedly killed by his employees, Chalamila said the matter is under investigation by security authorities.

For his part, TFF President Wallace Karia said the federation continues to run youth football development programmes involving players aged between 10 and 17 years.

Karia also outlined plans for the redevelopment of Karume Stadium under a modern design that will combine sports activities with commercial investment opportunities.

He additionally called on journalists to support national football initiatives and encourage unity whenever players from different clubs are selected to represent Tanzania in international competitions.
