Driving instructors in Arusha Region are undergoing specialized training aimed at improving the quality of driver education and strengthening road safety standards across Tanzania, as authorities intensify efforts to reduce road accidents.

The training is being conducted at Arusha Technical College, bringing together instructors from various driving schools who are being equipped with modern teaching skills, updated road safety knowledge, and enhanced competence in the use of information and communication technology (ICT) in training systems.

The programme is being led by the Head of the Traffic Police Unit in Arusha Region, Zauda Mohamed, who said the initiative is part of ongoing reforms by the Tanzania Police Force to ensure that driver training institutions produce qualified, responsible and safety-conscious drivers.

He said strengthening the capacity of instructors is a key step toward improving discipline on the roads and reducing avoidable accidents that continue to claim lives and cause economic losses.

“We are focusing on ensuring that instructors are fully equipped with the right knowledge and modern techniques so that they can produce drivers who respect road safety laws and regulations. This is an important step in reducing road accidents and saving lives,” said ACP Zauda Mohamed.

He added that the Traffic Police Unit will continue working closely with stakeholders in the transport sector to expand training programmes, improve compliance with road safety standards, and promote the use of technology in driver education and management systems.

According to him, the growing demand for skilled and professional drivers both within and outside the country requires continuous improvement of training systems to meet evolving labour market needs.

Participants in the training expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that it has strengthened their capacity to deliver quality instruction and produce competent drivers who meet both national and international standards.

They further commended the Tanzania Police Force for its continued commitment to professional development in the driving education sector, saying the training will play a significant role in improving road safety and reducing accidents across the country.
