Zambia, South Africa deepen tourism ties at inaugural JTTC meeting

Zambia and South Africa have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in the tourism sector during the inaugural Joint Tourism Technical Committee (JTTC) Meeting held in Livingstone from 7th to 12th April 2026.

Speaking at the official opening, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Evans Muhanga, emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration in tourism development, noting that the meeting comes at a critical time as the global tourism sector recovers and adapts to emerging challenges, including geopolitical tensions affecting travel and connectivity.

He highlighted key areas of cooperation under the JTTC, including tourism marketing, travel facilitation, skills development, heritage conservation and the promotion of intra-African tourism.

South Africa’s Director General in the Department of Tourism, Nkhulumeni Victor Vele, commended Zambia for hosting the meeting and underscored the importance of strengthened collaboration.

Mr. Vele, said this platform provides an opportunity for both countries to unlock tourism potential through joint marketing, improved connectivity, and sustainable development for the benefit of our people.

The meeting is expected to produce actionable outcomes, including the development of an implementation plan for the Memorandum of Understanding and strengthened frameworks for continued cooperation.
