The Executive Director of Mbeya Zonal Referral Hospital, Dr Godlove Mbwanji, has urged staff of Mbeya College of Health and Allied Sciences (MCHAS) to take extra initiative in building their knowledge and skills beyond routine responsibilities, saying this is key to improving performance in public service.

Opening a one-day capacity-building seminar for MCHAS employees, Dr Mbwanji stressed that a competent worker is one who is ready to learn from others and actively seek new knowledge.

He said exposure to new ideas and maintaining an open mindset are critical in enhancing efficiency and productivity at the workplace, particularly in institutions that provide essential services to the public.

The seminar equipped participants with practical skills in public service delivery, leadership and personal development. It also featured sessions on investment and entrepreneurship, aimed at helping staff strengthen their financial stability in the face of changing economic realities.

MCHAS Principal, Dr Geofrey Mdede, commended staff for turning up in large numbers and encouraged them to maintain unity and a shared commitment to growth.

He said the college is focused on building a workforce that is not only professionally competent but also economically empowered, capable of making informed decisions both at work and in personal life.

Dr Mdede added that experts from various fields were invited to share knowledge and open up opportunities for staff to explore investment and entrepreneurial ventures.

Some participants, including Evodius Emmanuel and Joyce Mponela, said the training had come at the right time, helping them understand the importance of financial discipline and the need to diversify income sources.

The seminar is part of MCHAS’s ongoing efforts to strengthen staff capacity, boost motivation and ensure the delivery of quality services to the community.
