On April 16, 2026, the Uhuru Torch visited Ubungo where it inspected, inaugurated, laid foundation stones, and reviewed seven development projects valued at TZS 19,214,407,774.81.

All projects were approved, reflecting adherence to standards, accountability, and proper implementation of public investments.

Among the projects inspected was a youth economic empowerment initiative in Malumalu, Msigani Ward, aimed at supporting young people to engage in productive activities, create jobs, and improve their incomes.

In the education sector, the Uhuru Torch laid a foundation stone for the construction of a library and hall at Barbro Johnson Secondary School.

The project is expected to improve the learning environment and enhance academic performance for students.

Infrastructure development also featured in the tour, including the construction of Hondogo Shija Road in Kibamba Ward.

Once completed, the road will improve transport connectivity, ease movement of people and goods, and support local economic activities.

In the health sector, the Uhuru Torch inspected the construction of Msakuzi Health Centre, which will help bring essential health services closer to residents and reduce pressure on existing facilities.

The Torch also visited the Mbezi Msumi water project, which is expected to increase access to clean and safe water for households, improve hygiene, and reduce waterborne diseases.

In education expansion efforts, the Uhuru Torch inspected the construction of Muungano Goba Secondary School, a project designed to accommodate the growing number of students in the area.

A clean energy project implemented by Moto Safi Company was also inspected, aimed at promoting the use of environmentally friendly energy solutions in line with national climate and environmental goals.

Local authorities and project implementers were urged to maintain transparency, quality, and accountability to ensure that citizens fully benefit from government investments.

Residents of Ubungo welcomed the projects, saying they will improve access to education, healthcare, water, transport, and economic opportunities, especially for youth and families.

After completing its activities in Ubungo, the Uhuru Torch 2026 continued its journey on April 17, 2026, in Kinondoni District, where it is expected to inspect and launch additional development projects.

The Uhuru Torch continues to symbolize unity, peace, and development, reminding citizens of their shared responsibility in building the nation.
