Public funds and internal revenue are being channelled into improving Tanzania’s communication infrastructure, with the Tanzania Telecommunications Corporation Limited investing Sh1.6 billion in new operational vehicles and Bajajis to strengthen service delivery.
TTCL Director General, Moremi Marwa, on April 29, 2026, handed over nine Toyota Hilux vehicles and 28 Bajajis to heads of departments and units at the corporation’s headquarters in Dar es Salaam, marking a step towards enhancing efficiency in executing the institution’s mandate.
The corporation said Sh1.6 billion was spent on the vehicles, while Sh291.2 million financed the procurement of the Bajajis. The investment is drawn from TTCL’s financial performance in the 2024/25 financial year, in which the state-owned telecom firm posted a profit of Sh22.98 billion.
Management says the move is aimed at strengthening oversight and operations of key national projects, including the National ICT Broadband Backbone and the “Faiba Mlangoni Kwako” initiative, which seeks to expand internet access to homes and businesses.
The additional transport is expected to ease field operations, particularly in monitoring infrastructure, accelerating project implementation and improving customer service outreach in both urban and rural areas.
TTCL also indicated that it will receive five more vehicles by the end of May 2026 to further support marketing and sales activities as the firm positions itself to compete in Tanzania’s evolving telecommunications market.
