Tanzania, Tembo Nickel hold investment talks in Washington D.C.

The Minister of Finance, Khamis Mussa Omar, has held discussions with the Executive Director of Tembo Nickel, Mr. Chris Showalter, focusing on strengthening investment cooperation in Tanzania’s mining sector.

The talks were held at the Tanzania Embassy offices in Washington D.C, in the United States of America. 

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 2026 IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings, which bring together global finance leaders, investors and policymakers.

During the discussions, both sides reviewed ongoing and planned investments by Tembo Nickel in Tanzania. 

They focused on how the projects can support national development goals, including job creation, industrial growth and increased value addition in the mining sector.

The government delegation emphasized Tanzania’s continued commitment to improving the investment environment. 

They noted that the country is working to ensure stable policies, predictable regulations and stronger cooperation with investors in strategic sectors such as mining.

The Executive Director of Tembo Nickel, Mr. Chris Showalter, briefed the delegation on the company’s activities and future plans in Tanzania. 

He highlighted the company’s intention to continue investing in responsible mining operations and building long-term partnerships with the government.

The Tanzanian delegation included senior government officials. These included the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Natu El-maamry Mwamba, and the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the President – Finance and Planning Zanzibar, Mr. Aboud Hassan Mwinyi.

Others present were Tanzania’s Ambassador to the United States, Elsie Sia Kanza, and officials from the Ministry of Finance, including Assistant Commissioner for Policy Mr. Mbayan Saruni.

Officials said the meeting reflected Tanzania’s broader efforts to engage international investors during major global financial gatherings such as the IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings.

They added that partnerships with companies like Tembo Nickel are important in ensuring that the mining sector contributes more to the national economy, while also supporting sustainable development and local benefits.

Both parties agreed to continue discussions to further align investment plans with Tanzania’s development priorities and strengthen long-term cooperation in the mining sector.
