Tallis Swimming Club has once again underlined its dominance in Tanzania’s swimming scene after successfully defending its title at the National Club Championships, which concluded yesterday at the International School of Tanganyika swimming pool.
The highly competitive event attracted top clubs from across the country, with Dar Swimming finishing second while Mwanza claimed third place after a series of closely contested races.
The Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) Technical Director, Amina Mfaume, said the championships not only ran smoothly but also showcased significant progress among swimmers, many of whom managed to surpass their previous best performances.
She noted that the competition played a key role in identifying athletes who will represent Tanzania in upcoming international assignments, including the Africa Zone Five Championships and World Championship qualifiers.
“The selection committee has already received the names, and today, April 13, we will meet to review them. Once the process is complete, we will announce the final squad and begin further preparations,” she said.
Mfaume added that the rainfall experienced during the event did not disrupt proceedings. Instead, it created cooler conditions that helped swimmers maintain high performance levels throughout the competition.
Tallis swimmer Romeo-Minaly Mwaipasi credited the club’s continued success to discipline, teamwork and consistent preparation.
He said balancing academics and training was challenging for many swimmers, but their determination made the difference.
“Most of us are in college, but we stayed focused and committed. To remain the best, you must train hard and follow the coach’s guidance, and that is exactly what we did,” he said.
The championship once again reflected the rising standards of swimming in the country, with emerging talents signaling a bright future for Tanzania on the regional and global stage.
