Dar es Salaam. The Chairperson of the Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (SARPCCO), who is also Malawi’s Inspector General of Police, Richard Luhanga, has visited the National Museum of Tanzania as part of his official programme in the country.
The visit, conducted on April 22, 2026, in Dar es Salaam, formed part of his broader engagement with member states and aimed at gaining deeper insight into Tanzania’s historical, cultural and development trajectory.
Upon arrival at the museum located along Shaaban Robert Street, IGP Luhanga was received by the Acting Director General of the National Museum, Pendo Gondwe, who highlighted the institution’s role as a custodian of the country’s identity and heritage.
“The National Museum is a strategic institution that preserves and showcases the history and identity of our nation. This visit provides an important opportunity to experience Tanzania’s journey through time,” she said.
The tour followed a meeting held on April 21, 2026, at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC), where regional police leaders convened as part of SARPCCO’s ongoing cooperation agenda.
According to officials, Luhanga’s visit also sought to assess the implementation of resolutions adopted during the SARPCCO Annual General Meeting held in Dar es Salaam in June 2025.
During the tour, the SARPCCO chair expressed admiration for the quality of exhibits, noting that the museum effectively presents Tanzania’s history, culture and scientific development through well-preserved collections.
“I am impressed by how the historical, cultural and scientific heritage has been preserved and presented. The exhibits provide a vivid narrative of Tanzania’s journey and development,” he said.
Such visits by regional leaders not only strengthen institutional cooperation but also promote cultural diplomacy, positioning heritage sites as important platforms for regional engagement and mutual understanding.
