Members of the Rural Energy Agency (REA) Board have expressed satisfaction with the implementation of an electricity connectivity project covering 105 sub-villages in Mbeya Region, valued at TZS 10.9 billion.
The project is being executed by The Electrical Transmission and Distribution, Construction and Maintenance Company Limited (ETDCO), a company specializing in the construction and rehabilitation of electricity transmission and distribution infrastructure.
During an inspection visit on April 29, 2026, the board members, led by the representative of the REA Board Chairperson, Florian Haule, said they were impressed by the pace of implementation, noting that the project has reached 93 percent completion.
They commended the contractor for the significant progress made so far, expressing confidence that the project will deliver the intended benefits to the targeted communities.
Speaking on behalf of the Acting Managing Director, ETDCO’s Director of Technical Services, Abdallah Mitenda, said the company is committed to completing the project by the end of May 2026.
He noted that this would mark completion within one year, ahead of the two-year timeline initially set in the contract.
On his part, the project manager, Ajuaye Jeggo, said the project is expected to connect approximately 3,465 customers.
He urged residents in the project areas to complete internal house wiring to enable immediate connection once the service becomes available, at a cost of TZS 27,000.
Residents of Mbeya Region have welcomed the project, thanking the government through REA for bringing electricity closer to their communities.
They said the initiative will help stimulate social and economic development in the area.
The project includes the construction of about 1.5 kilometres of medium-voltage power lines, 210 kilometres of low-voltage lines, and the installation of 105 transformers.
