Oryx Gas Tanzania has unveiled a new initiative to expand access to clean cooking energy by opening special retail outlets in Dar es Salaam, as part of its broader strategy to support national efforts on clean energy adoption.
The company said the move is aligned with government initiatives to promote the use of clean cooking energy, while also emphasizing the need for continuous public education to ensure consumers understand how to use the energy safely and efficiently.
Speaking during the launch of a new Oryx gas outlet in Banana area on April 30, 2026, the company’s Marketing and Sales Manager, Shaban Fundi, said Oryx is committed to supporting the government’s clean energy agenda.
He noted that Tanzania aims to ensure that at least 80 percent of the population uses clean cooking energy by 2030, adding that the company is working to contribute to that goal.
“The opening of these special shops is part of our continued collaboration with the government and the public. Clean cooking energy is not a luxury but a necessity, and we are improving our storage, supply and distribution infrastructure to ensure services reach communities efficiently,” he said.
According to the company, the new outlets will not only bring services closer to the people but will also serve as centres for educating customers on the proper and safe use of cooking gas.
Fundi stressed that lack of knowledge on how to use gas properly often leads to misconceptions about costs or efficiency, noting that users sometimes believe gas runs out quickly due to improper usage.
“Customers visiting our shops will receive guidance on how to safely use our gas cylinders. In addition, we have introduced a delivery service where customers can leave their phone numbers and have gas delivered to their homes at no extra cost,” he added.
The company said it has already established about 1,000 such outlets across the country and continues to expand, with new locations recently opened in Banana under NASSCO and Masenze.
Meanwhile, Tarik Nassoro, Director of NASSCO, an Oryx Gas agent said the partnership has enabled the opening of several outlets in Ilala District, urging Tanzanians to embrace clean energy and move away from environmentally harmful sources such as charcoal and firewood.
Food vendors, including Dickson Kuga and Beatrice Shayo, also called on fellow “mama lishe” and “baba lishe” operators to adopt clean cooking energy, noting that it saves time and reduces health risks compared to traditional fuels.
