The Chief Sheikh and Mufti of Tanzania, Abubakar Zubeir bin Ally, has expressed confidence that the report of the independent commission investigating incidents of unrest during and after the October 29, 2026 General Election will play a critical role in healing the country’s political and social divisions.
Speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam on Monday, the Mufti said he was satisfied with the way the commission has been carrying out its work, noting that it has demonstrated professionalism and remained within its assigned mandate.
He said the decision to establish the commission was both timely and necessary, describing it as an important step towards safeguarding national unity and restoring public trust following the tensions witnessed during the election period.
The religious leader noted that the commission’s findings are expected to contribute to justice, reconciliation, and long-term stability, particularly for communities affected by the unrest.
He further emphasized the need for the commission to remain firm in upholding fairness and delivering credible outcomes that reflect the expectations of Tanzanians.
The Mufti also highlighted the importance of dialogue in addressing political and social challenges, calling on citizens to take an active role in resolving internal issues through constructive engagement rather than depending on external intervention.
His remarks come at a time when public attention remains focused on the commission’s work, with many awaiting its report as a foundation for strengthening democratic processes and ensuring lasting peace in the country.
