TRA Boss orders fair and consistent tax services nationwide

The Commissioner General of the Tanzania Revenue Authority, Yusuph Juma Mwenda, has directed regional tax managers to provide fair, efficient and law-abiding services to taxpayers, stressing that similar cases must receive similar decisions across the country.

Speaking in Mwanza on April 13, 2026, Mwenda made the call while opening a national meeting that brought together TRA regional managers to review and strengthen tax service delivery in both domestic revenue and customs.

He said the move is aimed at addressing long-standing complaints from taxpayers about inconsistent treatment in different regions, which has often led to perceptions of unfairness.

Mwenda emphasized that every manager must strictly follow tax laws when making decisions, warning that deviation from legal guidelines undermines public confidence in the institution.

He pointed out that a taxpayer in Mwanza should receive the same treatment as one in Ilala or Mtwara when faced with a similar tax matter.

“Consistency in applying the law is critical. When decisions differ from one region to another under similar circumstances, it creates confusion and weakens trust among taxpayers,” he said.

Mwenda assured taxpayers that TRA is committed to delivering improved and standardized services nationwide, noting that the authority operates as a single institution guided by the same legal framework.

The meeting is part of ongoing efforts by TRA to enhance transparency, accountability and efficiency in tax administration, while building stronger trust between the authority and taxpayers.
