By The Respondents Reporter

Representatives from Equinor, led by Noel Cox, alongside a delegation from the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) headed by Asiad Mrutu, have conducted a stakeholder visit to assess service providers ahead of the planned Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project in southern Tanzania.

The visit focused on evaluating the preparedness and capacity of the Mtwara Port to handle the anticipated cargo volumes and logistical demands once the multi-billion-dollar project begins implementation in the regions of Lindi Region and Mtwara Region.

During the tour, the delegation received a detailed briefing from the port’s Acting Manager, Mtunze Sudi, who outlined a series of infrastructure upgrades undertaken to enhance operational efficiency.

These improvements include strengthened cargo handling systems, increased service efficiency, and the integration of modern technologies in port operations.

Sudi noted that the upgrades have significantly boosted the port’s capacity to manage diverse types of cargo in line with international standards required for large-scale energy projects.

He said the developments have positioned Mtwara Port as a strategic logistics hub capable of supporting the LNG project once it commences.

Sudi also assured the visiting team that the port is fully prepared to handle their cargo requirements at any time, emphasizing management’s commitment to delivering timely, high-quality services to facilitate the successful execution of the project, which is considered critical to Tanzania’s economic growth.
