Morogoro road accident kills three injures five others

Three people have died and five others sustained injuries following a head-on collision between a truck and a passenger bus in Morogoro Region, with police attributing the accident to negligence and warning against reckless driving on public roads.

Morogoro Regional Police Commander Andrew Kantimbo said the accident occurred on April 21, 2026, in the morning at Kona S area in Kikoni hamlet, Lumango village, Kidodi ward in Mikumi Division along the Mikumi–Kilombero highway.

He said the accident involved a FAW truck with registration numbers T154 ECP/T229 EBY, driven by Yasin Omary Nasiri (48), a resident of Dar es Salaam, which was travelling from Mikumi towards Ruaha. 

Preliminary information shows that the driver attempted to overtake a three-wheeled vehicle ahead without proper caution, leading to a head-on collision with a Tata bus registered T996 EPP belonging to ZL Super Company. 

The bus was travelling from Ifakara to Dodoma and was driven by Emanuel Benito.

Police confirmed that three people died instantly. The deceased are the truck driver Yasin Omary Nasiri (48), Awadhi Ngwanda (60), a plumber from Mang’ula, and Zalaph Awadhi Ngwanda (20), also from Mang’ula.

Five other passengers were injured, including an unidentified man estimated to be between 40 and 45 years old. Others are Amani Iddi (60), a farmer from Ifakara; Matha John (39), a businessperson from Dodoma; Pendo Kui (68), a farmer from Singida; and Monica Lameck Mazuwameli (16), a Form Three student at Iwemba Secondary School in Lumango.

The injured victims are receiving treatment at St. Kizito Hospital in Mikumi.

Commander Kantimbo said initial investigations point to negligence by the truck driver who attempted an unsafe overtaking maneuver. 

He urged drivers and other road users to strictly follow traffic regulations and exercise caution to avoid similar tragedies.

He added that the police will continue to take legal action against drivers who endanger lives through reckless behavior on the roads.
