The Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, has tasked Tanzania’s Ambassador-designate to Comoros, Salim Othman Hamad, to prioritise economic diplomacy as he takes up his new post.
Speaking during a farewell meeting held at the ministry’s sub-office in Dar es Salaam, Mr Kombo said the envoy must focus on expanding trade, attracting investment and promoting tourism between the two nations.
He noted that Tanzania and Comoros share long-standing relations, but stressed that more can be achieved by unlocking untapped economic opportunities for mutual benefit.
The minister also underscored the importance of maintaining strong diplomatic engagement, urging the ambassador-designate to ensure effective representation that advances Tanzania’s strategic interests abroad.
Mr Hamad thanked President Samia Suluhu Hassan for entrusting him with the role, pledging to serve with professionalism and integrity.
Before his appointment, Mr Hamad served as a political adviser to the President.
