Kigoma Region is strengthening the delivery of emergency health services through ongoing training programmes for health professionals, aimed at improving efficiency, response time, and quality of care for citizens in need of urgent medical attention.

The Regional Medical Officer for Kigoma Region, Dr. Damas Kayela, said the training is a valuable opportunity to enhance emergency healthcare services across the region, ensuring that patients receive timely and effective treatment.

Dr. Kayela made the remarks on April 14, 2026, in Kigoma Region, noting that the initiative involving health experts is part of broader efforts to improve service delivery in the health sector.

He said the presence of national-level experts, who are in the region from April 13 to April 26, 2026, is aimed at conducting a comprehensive assessment of health services to identify achievements and challenges.

He explained that the collaboration between national experts and regional health teams will help strengthen areas that are performing well while addressing existing gaps in service delivery.

According to him, this joint effort will significantly improve emergency health services and ensure citizens receive faster and better care.

Dr. Kayela emphasized that teamwork between national and regional health professionals is essential in improving healthcare outcomes, particularly in emergency situations where quick response can save lives.

He also expressed appreciation for the support from national experts, saying their assessment will help identify practical solutions that will further strengthen the health system in the region.

He reaffirmed the commitment of Kigoma Region to work closely with all stakeholders to ensure that recommendations from the exercise are fully implemented for the benefit of citizens.

In a related development, the Acting Medical Officer in Charge of Maweni Hospital, Dr. Joseph Nangawe, said the hospital has welcomed the training sessions provided to health professionals on emergency care services.

He said the training has helped health workers better understand both strengths and gaps in service delivery, particularly in handling emergency cases that require immediate attention.

Dr. Nangawe added that the hospital management will continue to closely monitor the implementation of expert recommendations in order to improve service delivery.

He stressed that the goal is to ensure that all patients receive high-quality, efficient, and timely healthcare services.

He further noted that continuous capacity building for health workers is essential in strengthening preparedness, reducing delays in treatment, and improving overall patient outcomes.

The initiative reflects ongoing government efforts to strengthen healthcare systems at both regional and facility levels, with a strong focus on improving emergency response services and saving lives through faster and more effective medical care.
