The leadership of Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (Chadema) on Monday met a high-level delegation from the African Women Leaders Network (AWLN), which is in Tanzania to engage stakeholders on governance and human rights developments.

The delegation is led by former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and includes former Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde

The team is holding consultations with political parties and civil society groups to gather information on incidents reported before and after October 29, 2025.

Chadema’s delegation was headed by Vice Chairman (Mainland) John Heche, alongside Secretary General John Mnyika, Deputy Secretary General (Mainland) Amani Golugwa, Deputy Secretary General (Zanzibar) Ali Ibrahimu and Council of Elders Chairperson Suzan Lyimo.

During the meeting, Chadema presented its official position as adopted by its Central Committee, detailing alleged cases of human rights violations and violence linked to the period surrounding the October 29 events.

The party called for an independent and impartial investigation, stressing the need for accountability for those responsible.

It also underscored the importance of protecting democratic principles, respect for human rights and adherence to the rule of law.
