The Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Tanzania, Dr. Mahimbo Mndolwa, has described the establishment of an independent commission to investigate incidents of peace violations during and after the General Election held on October 29, 2025, as a reflection of national maturity in addressing internal challenges.

Speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam on Monday, April 13, 2026, ahead of the planned submission of the commission’s report to President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, Bishop Mndolwa said the decision to form the commission shows the country’s commitment to using its own institutions to examine and address issues that affect peace and stability.

He said Tanzania’s approach of handling the matter through a locally established inquiry demonstrates confidence in its legal and governance systems, especially in managing sensitive national events through structured and formal processes.

Bishop Mndolwa noted that the use of a domestic commission allows the country to reflect on its experiences and identify solutions based on its own context, rather than relying on external involvement.

He added that resolving national issues through internal dialogue and institutional mechanisms is consistent with widely accepted principles of conflict resolution, where parties first seek solutions within their own systems before engaging external support.

According to him, the commission’s work is expected to provide findings that will help strengthen peace, accountability, and unity in the country following the election period.

He further observed that Tanzania continues to address social and economic challenges through its established institutions, which he said plays an important role in maintaining stability and encouraging public trust in national processes.

Bishop Mndolwa emphasized the importance of continued cooperation among citizens, leaders, and institutions in ensuring that the country remains peaceful and focused on development priorities.
