Officers from the Business Facilitation Desk of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) have provided tax education and awareness training to students of Gerezani Secondary School as part of efforts to build early understanding of the country’s tax system.

The training, held on March 11, 2026 at the school, aimed to equip students with basic knowledge about taxation, including how to register for a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) and the importance of paying taxes for national development.

TRA officer Mpaji Massamu told students that those who meet the required conditions can register for a TIN, which allows individuals to be officially recognized in the tax system once they start engaging in economic activities.

He explained that having a TIN is important for anyone planning to conduct business or other income-generating activities, as it helps ensure compliance with tax regulations and allows individuals to participate fully in the formal economy.

Another TRA officer, Jamal Ngarawa, introduced the students to the Integrated Domestic Revenue Administration System (IDRAS), a digital platform that enables taxpayers to access tax services more easily.

He said the system allows taxpayers to handle many tax-related services online, reducing the need to visit TRA offices and making it easier to resolve tax issues from anywhere.

The school’s Tax Club and academic teacher, Musa Roche, thanked TRA officials for providing the training and helping students understand the importance of taxation at an early stage.

He urged the students to use the knowledge they gained to become ambassadors of tax awareness in their communities and to recognize the role taxes play in supporting national development.

The outreach programme is part of ongoing initiatives by the Tanzania Revenue Authority to promote tax education among young people and strengthen future compliance through awareness and understanding.
