On March 13, 2026, during the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Council of Ministers meeting in Pretoria, Tanzania’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Dr. Ngwaru Maghembe, met with South Africa’s Deputy Minister for International Relations and Cooperation, Ms. Thandi Moraka, to discuss ways to deepen cooperation between the two nations.

The meeting, which included Tanzania’s Deputy Minister for Finance, Mr. Laurent Luswetula, and Tanzania’s Ambassador to South Africa, Mr. James Bwana, focused on strengthening diplomatic and economic ties that have historically connected the two countries.

Both sides agreed to speed up the finalization of draft agreements in key sectors, allowing for faster signing and implementation.

These agreements are expected to create new opportunities for trade, investment, and development that will directly benefit citizens in both countries.

Dr. Maghembe also praised South Africa for hosting the 2025 G20 Summit and for the smooth organization of the two-day SADC Council of Ministers meeting on March 12–13, 2026, highlighting the importance of such international gatherings in promoting regional development.
