Attorney General sworn in as Commissioner of the Judiciary Service Commission

On March 13, 2026, the Attorney General, Hamza S. Johari, was officially sworn in as a Commissioner of the Judiciary Service Commission during a brief ceremony held at the Commission’s Meeting Hall in Dodoma.

Hon. Johari took the oath before the Chairman of the Judiciary Service Commission and Chief Justice of Tanzania, Hon. George M. Masaju, following his appointment as a member of the Commission.

His appointment to the Judiciary Service Commission comes after he was reappointed as Attorney General by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, in November 2026.

Additionally, Johari was sworn in as Commissioner in accordance with the requirements of the Judiciary Administration Act No. 4, Chapter 237, which mandates that every Commissioner must be sworn in by the Chairman of the Judiciary Service Commission before assuming their duties.

Alongside Johari, other members sworn in include Court of Appeal Judge Gerson Mdemu and independent lawyers Mr. Thomas Nyanduga and Ms. Dorcas Mutabuzi.
