Tanzania and Norway pledge to strengthen bilateral cooperation

By The Respondents Reporter

Tanzania and Norway have reaffirmed their strong economic, social, and diplomatic ties, with both countries committed to expanding collaboration for mutual development.

Finance Minister, Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar (MP), made the remarks during a meeting with Norway’s Ambassador to Tanzania, Tone Tinnes, at the Ministry of Finance offices in Dar es Salaam. The discussions focused on strategies to enhance cooperation across key sectors.

Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1964, Norway has been a major partner in supporting Tanzania’s development in energy, oil and gas, public financial management, agriculture, health, education, and environmental conservation.

The Nordic country has also played a key role in poverty alleviation through the Tanzania Social Action Fund (TASAF).

Ambassador Omar highlighted Norway’s continued support, noting a grant of NOK 525 million (about TZS 136.5 billion) since 2020, which has empowered poor households through TASAF programs.

He also encouraged Norwegian investors to explore opportunities in Tanzania, particularly in sectors that enhance agricultural value chains.

Ambassador Tinnes praised Tanzania’s ongoing economic and social reforms and assured that Norway would continue supporting initiatives benefiting citizens in both countries.

He expressed his ambition to see bilateral trade expand significantly and committed to attracting more Norwegian investors to Tanzania.

The Norwegian envoy also emphasized Norway’s interest in collaborating on energy and environmental projects, highlighting the carbon credit market as a high-potential area that also contributes to environmental conservation.

This renewed commitment underlines the strong partnership between Tanzania and Norway and signals growing opportunities for investment, trade, and sustainable development.
