Government to Boost Mang’ola economy with new 10.8 km road

The government has unveiled plans to construct a 10.8-kilometre road in Mang’ola Barazani village, Karatu District, aiming to spur local economic growth. The project will be implemented by the Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA).

Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office for Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG), Prof. Riziki Shemdoe, announced the initiative on March 6, 2026, while meeting residents of Mang’ola Barazani.

The discussion followed Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba’s laying of the foundation stone for the Eyasi Valley Irrigation Scheme, during which locals raised concerns about the poor condition of the village road.

Prof. Shemdoe underscored Mang’ola’s economic significance, noting that the village produces onions worth TZS 1.2 billion annually.

“Given its importance, the Mang’ola Barazani road must be improved. Upgrades will follow the completion of the 15-kilometre Karatu Town road project,” he said.

For the 2025/26 fiscal year, TARURA has allocated TZS 73 million to build the road at gravel standard.

The road is expected to benefit residents by supporting various social and economic activities, including the transport of agricultural produce such as onions, rice, and maize to markets.

It will also improve access to essential services, including healthcare and daily transport via motorcycles and small vehicles.

The Mang’ola Barazani road, which passes through the Eyasi Valley, is a crucial link connecting Mang’ola Ward to neighbouring areas and Karatu town in Arusha Region.

The upgrade is expected to boost agricultural productivity, enhance trade, and improve livelihoods in the area.
