More than 100 vulnerable households in Lushoto District have received iftar food assistance through a joint initiative by Lushoto Member of Parliament, Riziki Shemdoe, and humanitarian organisation Islamic Help during the holy month of Ramadan.

The food packages were distributed to needy families from Ubiri and Ngulwi wards, many of whom are beneficiaries of the government-supported Tanzania Social Action Fund, which supports low-income households across the country.

The assistance included essential food items used to prepare iftar meals, among them rice, maize flour, wheat flour, sugar, tea leaves, beans, pasta, cooking oil and dates.

Speaking during the distribution, Prof. Shemdoe thanked Islamic Help for partnering with him to support residents facing economic hardship, noting that the initiative was aimed at ensuring that vulnerable families are able to observe Ramadan with dignity.

He said the support reflects the importance of solidarity and compassion during the fasting period and called for continued collaboration with development partners to expand assistance to more people in need across the constituency.

Each household received 10 kilograms of rice, five kilograms of beans, five kilograms of wheat flour, five kilograms of pasta, three litres of cooking oil, two kilograms of sugar, one kilogram of dates and a 250-gram packet of tea leaves.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support, saying the food aid had helped ease the burden of preparing iftar meals during the fasting month.

They also urged their MP to continue engaging partners and organisations that can assist vulnerable groups during important religious periods such as Ramadan and Lent.

The initiative forms part of Prof. Shemdoe’s ongoing efforts to improve the welfare of residents in Lushoto through collaboration with development partners.

Recently, he also worked with NMB Bank Plc to provide medical equipment and learning materials to support health and education services in the constituency.
