President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, on Thursday led national leaders, family members, and thousands of citizens in bidding farewell to the late Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Coordination, Parliament, and Persons with Disabilities), William Vangimembe Lukuvi, at Karimjee Grounds in Dar es Salaam.
Addressing mourners, President Samia described the late minister as a seasoned leader whose dedication, integrity, and patriotism left a lasting mark on public service.
“We have lost a leader, a brother, and a devoted servant of this nation. This is a loss not just for the family but for all Tanzanians, as many were touched by his contributions to public service,” President Samia said.
She highlighted Lukuvi’s wisdom, leadership experience, and his key role in strengthening government coordination, overseeing development projects, and addressing citizens’ challenges across the country.
“The nation loses him at a time when his guidance and counsel were most needed, especially amid global economic and political challenges. His dedication remains a model for all leaders and public servants, and we must continue to uphold accountability, patriotism, and selfless service to the nation,” she added.
President Samia also praised Lukuvi’s leadership style, noting his commitment to listening, advising, and making decisions in the country’s best interest.
She said his long tenure in government, Parliament, and the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party made him one of the leaders who significantly strengthened government performance.
Earlier, Dr. Jim Yonazi, Secretary General of the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Coordination, Parliament, and Persons with Disabilities), highlighted the late minister’s diligence and effectiveness, particularly in coordinating government activities and fostering strong relations between the government and Parliament.
The farewell ceremony attracted high-level participation, including the President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, other senior government leaders, retired officials, private sector representatives, political party leaders, religious figures, and citizens from across the country.
President Samia urged leaders and public servants to continue the legacy of Hon. Lukuvi by prioritizing service to the nation, accountability, and dedication to public welfare.
