Ngome’s men and women teams have claimed top honors at the National Handball Club Championship, which concluded yesterday in Arusha, thanks to months of dedicated preparation, according to head coach Salum Rashid.
The men’s team captured the title after a thrilling 20-18 victory over JKT in the final. JKT finished as runners-up, while JKU secured third place.
In the women’s competition, Ngome also emerged victorious, defeating JKT 23-15 in the final. JKT took second place, with Arusha CC finishing third.
Speaking to Leo on his way back to Dar es Salaam, Coach Rashid highlighted the competitiveness of the tournament.
“Every team came well-prepared. There were no easy matches this year, as all teams showed strong performance from rigorous training and planning,” he said.
He added, “Competition is rising as more clubs recruit talented young players. We urge our players to remain focused and continue training hard to maintain our standard.”
Michael Chibawala, Chairman of the Tanzania Handball Association (TAHA), congratulated the champions and called on them to prepare thoroughly, as they will represent Tanzania in upcoming East and Central Africa regional tournaments.
He also urged teams that underperformed to regroup and strengthen their squads ahead of future competitions, including the Union Cup, to raise the standard of handball nationally.
The tournament featured Ngome, JKT, Arusha DC, Arusha CC (both men and women), and JKU and Future in the men’s category.
