Zanzibar President Hussein Ali Mwinyi has urged the Zanzibar Research Centre for Economic, Social and Policy Analysis (ZRCP) to intensify efforts to promote the use of research findings in decision-making and public policy implementation.
Dr Mwinyi made the call on March 24, 2026, when he met with the centre’s Director General, Juma Hassan Reli, and his delegation at the State House in Zanzibar.
He advised the institution to organise forums and discussions that bring together government officials, policymakers and other stakeholders to raise awareness about the importance of research in improving governance and guiding development programmes.
The President said research findings are critical in shaping effective policies and helping institutions carry out their responsibilities more efficiently.
Dr Mwinyi also underscored the need to improve digital payment registration systems to enhance efficiency and transparency, especially within the public sector.
He suggested that existing policies, laws and regulations governing digital payments should be reviewed to ensure they match current technological developments and strengthen accountability in public financial systems.
Responding to the President’s remarks, ZRCP Director General Mr Reli said the centre is ready to support the government through research and policy analysis that can help improve governance and public sector performance.
He said the institution is prepared to work closely with the government in conducting studies and providing recommendations aimed at strengthening digital payment systems, including supporting reviews of policies, laws and regulations to ensure greater transparency and efficiency.
Mr Reli added that promoting the use of research in policymaking will help Zanzibar develop effective strategies for economic and social development while ensuring government decisions are guided by evidence.
