The Mbeya District Commissioner, Mr Solomon Itunda, has called on women from the Christian Council of Tanzania (CCT) to continue praying for the country and promoting moral values in society.

Mr Itunda made the remarks on Saturday, February 28, 2026, while representing the Mbeya Regional Commissioner, Mr Beno Malisa, at the National Women’s Conference of CCT held at the VETA Mbeya Hall in Mbeya.

The conference brought together women from more than 13 regions across the country with the aim of praying for the nation and the Church.

Speaking on behalf of the Regional Commissioner, Mr Itunda commended CCT women for organising the conference, noting that the role of women in prayer, moral guidance and nurturing families plays a crucial part in building a peaceful and united Tanzania.

He said women remain central in shaping a society that upholds strong values, unity and the fear of God.

Mr Itunda said the Sixth Phase Government continues to recognise the role of religious institutions in promoting ethics, strengthening peace and supporting social and economic development.

He emphasised that prayers for the nation remain an important pillar in strengthening national unity and the wellbeing of citizens.

The District Commissioner also urged women to remain agents of positive change in society by promoting family values, discouraging moral decay and encouraging harmony within communities.

He said women play a unique role in raising responsible and patriotic citizens who will contribute to the country’s development.

Mr Itunda also commended the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, for strengthening cooperation with religious leaders and promoting national unity through the philosophy of the Four Rs—Reconciliation, Resilience, Reforms and Rebuilding.

He said the philosophy continues to strengthen national cohesion and create a peaceful environment that supports development.

The conference was attended by several religious leaders, including the Bishop of the Konde Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (KKKT), Bishop Gefrey Mwaihaba, the Bishop of the Moravian Church Mbeya Province and the Bishop of the Anglican Church.

Also present was the Secretary General of the Christian Council of Tanzania, Canon Dr Moses Matonya.

The conference concluded with special prayers for the nation, government leaders and the Church, while calling for unity, love and solidarity among Tanzanians. Participants also highlighted the contribution of CCT women in building a morally upright society.
