Deputy Minister of Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups, Maryprisca Mahundi, has called on students and the broader community to strengthen patriotism and take responsibility for protecting public infrastructure at Mlale College of Community Development.

Speaking during the opening of a dialogue on ethics and patriotism at the college, Mahundi emphasized that every citizen has a duty to safeguard public facilities to ensure they last and benefit current and future generations. She highlighted that ethical values form the foundation of true patriotism and national development.

“Patriotism means loving your country, protecting national resources, being responsible, and working diligently for the benefit of all. Without strong ethics, genuine patriotism cannot be built,” Mahundi said.

She urged young people and communities to avoid behaviors that undermine moral values and instead become proactive in protecting the nation’s treasures.

Mahundi also noted that the Sixth Phase Government continues to invest in improving educational infrastructure to enhance service delivery and learning outcomes.

Songea District Commissioner, Wilman Ndile, described the dialogue as an important platform to build broad awareness among students and citizens on issues of ethics and patriotism.

Meanwhile, Luciana Mvula, Principal of Mlale College of Community Development, said the institution continues to implement skill-development programs aimed at producing graduates capable of self-employment and contributing meaningfully to community development.

She acknowledged that despite achievements, the college faces challenges, particularly in infrastructure, and called for continued support to improve learning and teaching environments.

Participants in the dialogue praised the sessions for raising their understanding of ethics and patriotism. Many promised to act as ambassadors of the knowledge gained, sharing lessons with peers and the wider community.

The event underscores ongoing efforts to integrate civic responsibility, ethics, and patriotism into education, ensuring that future generations value and protect national resources while contributing positively to Tanzania’s development.
