The government has handed over new operational vehicles to the Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited in Shinyanga Region in a move aimed at strengthening electricity service delivery and enabling faster response to customer challenges.
The Deputy Minister for Energy, Salome Makamba, presented the equipment during an event held in Kahama Municipal Council on March 27, 2026.
The new equipment includes four vehicles, four motorcycles and one three-wheeler, which officials say will help field teams reach customers more quickly, especially in areas that are difficult to access.
Ms Salome said the move forms part of broader government efforts to improve electricity services across the country in line with the vision of President Samia Suluhu Hassan to ensure reliable power supply for citizens.
Improving mobility for technical teams, she said, will enhance the ability of utility staff to address faults, connect new customers and respond promptly to service requests.
“Through these transport facilities, Tanesco staff will be able to reach customers faster and resolve their challenges more efficiently,” she said.
The deputy minister also used the occasion to encourage residents of Kahama to adopt clean cooking technologies powered by electricity, describing them as affordable, safe and environmentally friendly.
She noted that as Kahama continues to expand economically and demographically, the government is investing further in electricity infrastructure to meet rising demand.
According to the deputy minister, more than Sh600 million has been allocated to construct new electricity distribution lines to serve growing neighbourhoods within the municipality.
Acting Tanesco regional manager in Shinyanga, Eng Benson Mbigili, said the newly delivered equipment would significantly improve field operations and help the utility reach customers in remote or previously difficult areas.
He said the additional transport would support technicians in responding to service needs more efficiently while also expanding electricity connections to new customers.
Mr Mbigili added that the regional office will continue promoting the use of electricity for cooking as part of national efforts to expand clean energy use among households.
The initiative reflects the government’s broader push to improve access to reliable electricity while encouraging households to transition to cleaner sources of energy for everyday use.
