The Dar es Salaam Athletics Association (DAA) has announced that it has reached 30 percent completion in the process of selecting the regional team that will represent the region at the upcoming national championships in Pwani Region.

The selection is being conducted through the Talent Youth Track and Field Championship 2026, which began recently and is set to conclude tomorrow at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

Speaking on March 27, DAA Chairman Amani Ngoka said a panel of experts is actively evaluating the athletes to ensure the best talents are identified.

“Besides discovering established athletes, we have also spotted promising young talents who, we believe, will grow to become the stars of the future,” Ngoka said.

He added, “The championship started on March 27 and will continue until March 29. We are confident that by the end of this period, we will complete the selection process and finalize the athletes who will enter the training camp to represent our region with distinction.”

Ngoka also praised the strong turnout, noting that the large number of participating children reflects growing interest and enthusiasm for athletics in the region.

Among the participants, Salvatory Msafiri from Mwanza, who won the 5,000-meter race, expressed respect for his competitor despite his victory.

“My opponent is experienced and confident, which pushed me to perform at my best,” he said.

Similarly, Imran Dadi from Mlimani Academy, who finished second, congratulated his rival for challenging him and highlighted areas he plans to improve. He encouraged his competitor to keep striving for better records.

“I sincerely thank DAA for this opportunity. Events like this help track athletes gain more recognition and experience,” Dadi said.

Another participant, Happiness Jackson, shared her ambitions to become a top athlete and further develop her talent to secure future opportunities.

“Athletics is in my family. It has provided employment opportunities, and I want to continue that legacy,” she said.
