The Member of Parliament for Bagamoyo, Subira Mgalu, who also chairs the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy and Minerals, today, March 3, 2026, handed over new vehicles to the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) in Bagamoyo District.
The donation aims to strengthen customer service and improve operational efficiency in addressing electricity faults.
Speaking at the handover ceremony at the TANESCO Bagamoyo office, Hon. Mgalu said the vehicles will enable TANESCO engineers and technicians to reach households quickly during power outages or technical problems.
“These vehicles will help reduce response times and ensure that electricity services are delivered more efficiently to residents,” he said, noting that TANESCO has strengthened its operations, moving away from losses and now running without government subsidies.
Hon. Mgalu highlighted that following the completion of the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Plant, which generates 2,115 megawatts, Tanzania now has over 4,000 megawatts of electricity capacity far exceeding the national demand of around 2,000 megawatts.
He urged TANESCO to speed up efforts to connect more households to the grid.
Eastern Zone Director of TANESCO, Mr. Kenneth Boymanda, said the company is implementing numerous development projects in Bagamoyo, including rural electrification, and the new vehicles will facilitate faster project delivery.
“In Bagamoyo, we aim to connect every household to electricity. Nationally, by 2030, TANESCO plans to connect 8.3 million homes, targeting 1.7 million connections annually,” Mr. Boymanda said, adding that the company will operate day and night to achieve government targets under the Mission 300 plan.
The government continues to prioritize electricity infrastructure as a driver of industrial growth, business development, and community well-being.
TANESCO’s acquisition of these vehicles is part of broader efforts to improve service quality and ensure reliable electricity supply to citizens.
