Ally calls for longer camps and more friendlies to strengthen Taifa Stars

Tanzania’s national football team, Taifa Stars, needs extended training camps and more international friendly matches, particularly against stronger opponents, to boost competitiveness and provide players with vital experience, according to assistant coach Ahmad Ally.

Ally shared his recommendations with The Respondent Online following Taifa Stars’ recent participation in the 2026 FIFA Series.

In the tournament, Tanzania played two international friendlies, registering a dominant 6-0 win over Macau yesterday, while losing their opening game 1-0 to Liechtenstein in Kigali, Rwanda.

Despite the mixed results, Ally said the team largely achieved its goals, although some areas still require improvement.

“The primary objective was to give new players the chance to understand and adapt to the coaching staff’s philosophy. By and large, they responded well, though there are areas we still need to refine,” he said.

Ally also highlighted the importance of having high-quality substitutes in every position to enhance internal competition and provide the coaching team with more tactical options.

He concluded that longer training camps combined with regular matches against strong international sides will be essential in preparing Taifa Stars for major tournaments and raising their overall standard of play.
