Police officers of various ranks from the Tanzania Police Force who have completed their peacekeeping mission in South Sudan have been awarded medals in recognition of their contribution to maintaining peace and security in the conflict-affected country.

The officers concluded their tour of duty with a special parade held to officially mark the end of their service under the United Nations peacekeeping mission.

During the ceremony, medals were pinned on the officers and personnel as a sign of appreciation for their dedication, discipline and professionalism while serving abroad.

Tanzania remains one of the leading countries contributing troops and police officers to United Nations peacekeeping operations.

Its personnel have continued to earn international respect for their commitment to peace, protection of civilians and support for post-conflict recovery efforts in host countries.

Some of the officers said that although they worked under difficult and challenging conditions, the experience strengthened their determination to serve humanity and promote peace.

They added that the mission also enabled them to engage with communities, share knowledge and support efforts aimed at fostering stability and coexistence.

The officers also expressed appreciation to fellow peacekeepers from other countries for their strong cooperation and teamwork throughout the mission, noting that joint efforts were essential in sustaining peace in South Sudan.

As they concluded their assignment, the Tanzanian officers appealed to the people of South Sudan to continue safeguarding peace and unity, emphasizing that lasting stability is crucial for the country’s development and the well-being of its citizens.
