Tanzania will host the Africa Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization (ASAM) conference from February 3 to 6, 2026, marking a major milestone in the country’s efforts to modernize agriculture.

The event will coincide with the launch of the second phase of the National Agricultural Mechanization Strategy, which aims to boost productivity using modern farming technologies. Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba is expected to officiate the launch.

Speaking to journalists, Regional Commissioner Chalamila said the conference is organized in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and Tanzania’s Ministry of Agriculture.

“This is a unique opportunity to exchange experiences, strengthen partnerships, and accelerate the adoption of agricultural machinery for sustainable transformation in Tanzania and across Africa,” he said.

RC Chalamila added that the Prime Minister’s launch of the mechanization strategy will guide farmers and stakeholders in using modern tools to increase efficiency and production.

The conference will bring together agriculture ministers from across Africa, as well as key players in the sector, highlighting President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan’s commitment to promoting agriculture for the public good.

FAO’s resident representative in Tanzania, Charles Tulai, said the event is crucial for African countries to tackle challenges like climate change and population growth.

He noted that Tanzania is an ideal host for the conference and emphasized the role of young people as a vital workforce in driving agricultural progress.

The ASAM conference is expected to provide actionable insights, showcase modern farming technologies, and strengthen regional cooperation to make agriculture more productive, sustainable, and youth-inclusive.
