Boxing coaches in Dar Es Salaam have been urged to intensify training and preparation of young athletes ahead of the Dar Es Salaam Regional Boxing Championships, scheduled for March this year.
Speaking to The Respondent, the Chairman of the Dar Es Salaam Boxing Association (DABA), Akalory Godfrey, said the aim is to ensure participants enter the tournament fully prepared and able to compete at their best.
“The championships will help identify talented boxers across different age categories. These athletes will then be trained to form the regional team that will represent Dar Es Salaam in this year’s national competitions,” Godfrey explained.
He stressed the importance of clubs organizing themselves and improving performance standards. “This year, DABA is keen to see a higher level of competition and remarkable growth in the sport,” he added.
Godfrey also praised ongoing preparations for the event, assuring that it will be conducted professionally.
He called on sports stakeholders to support the championships, including by providing prizes for winners, to further encourage participation and excellence.
