Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila on February 23, 2026, signed a condolence book following the death of retired Archbishop of Dar es Salaam, Polycarp Pengo.
Chalamila, who was accompanied by members of the Regional Security Committee, visited Kurasini in Dar es Salaam to convey his condolences and join the Catholic faithful and the wider public in mourning the passing of the senior cleric.
He expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Cardinal Pengo as a respected religious leader who dedicated his life to serving the Church and the nation.
The Regional Commissioner extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Catholic Church, and Tanzanians at large, saying the late Cardinal would be remembered for his strong moral leadership, commitment to peace, and contribution to national unity. He also prayed for God to grant eternal rest to the departed soul.
According to a statement issued by the Dar es Salaam Archdiocese, burial of Cardinal Pengo is scheduled to take place on February 28, 2026, at Pugu, in Dar es Salaam.
