President Samia commends Geay and Dinday for Daegu Marathon Triumph

President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, has praised Tanzanian long-distance runners for their impressive performance at an international marathon, noting that their achievements continue to enhance the country’s image on the global sporting stage.

The President congratulated marathon star Gabriel Geay after he successfully defended his title at the Daegu Marathon, held on February 22, 2026, in Daegu, South Korea

Geay clinched victory for the second consecutive year, finishing the race in 2:08:09, following his historic win last year when he clocked 2:05:20.

President Samia also extended her congratulations to Emmanuel Dinday, who secured third place with a time of 2:08:17, marking a new personal best in the competition.

She noted that the strong performances reflected thorough preparation, discipline and determination, as well as a deep sense of patriotism in representing Tanzania at the highest level of international athletics. 

According to the President, the results have further strengthened the athletes’ global standing while flying the Tanzanian flag with pride.

The President said the success of Geay and Dinday should serve as motivation to other athletes and national teams to aim higher and perform better in international competitions. 

She reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to continue improving the sporting environment in the country by strengthening infrastructure and supporting athlete preparation, with the goal of ensuring Tanzanian sportsmen and women remain competitive worldwide.
