The Mwanza Regional Police has dismissed circulating social media reports suggesting the presence of rebel groups and visible police patrols in the city.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Wilbrod Mutafungwa, the Mwanza Regional Police Commander, described the reports as misleading and intended to create public fear.
He explained that some individuals have been misusing social media, using images of police officers and equipment to produce content designed to incite panic, division, and hatred.
“The Police urge citizens to ignore such malicious information and instead seek verified updates from official authorities responsible for public safety,” said DCP Mutafungwa.
The Mwanza Police also affirmed that they are closely monitoring and taking action against those who create and spread false, divisive, or harmful content, noting that such acts violate national laws.
Meanwhile, the security situation in Mwanza remains calm. Residents continue their daily activities in a safe and peaceful environment, while police officers maintain close cooperation with the community and other security agencies to protect lives and property.
