The Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO), Southern Coast Region, has intensified its public awareness and financing program aimed at expanding access to modern, energy-efficient electric cookers designed to reduce household cooking costs.
The initiative is being implemented in the districts of Mafia, Kibiti, Ikwiriri, Pamoja, and Mkuranga, where communities are being educated on the use of affordable and clean cooking technologies that consume minimal electricity.
Speaking during the distribution of the cookers, the Southern Coast Regional Manager of TANESCO, Engineer Anita Marco, said the program’s main objective is to promote the adoption of safe, efficient, and cost-effective cooking solutions.
“TANESCO is providing these cookers through a loan arrangement, allowing customers to repay gradually using the LUKU prepaid electricity system,” she said.
The modern electric cookers use clean energy and are designed for high efficiency, helping households save both time and money.
Engineer Marco noted that the appliances consume low levels of electricity, are safe for domestic use, support environmental conservation, and encourage efficient use of available resources.
The cookers are electric pressure cookers integrated with Internet of Things (IoT) technology, developed by Sayari Safi in collaboration with Up Energy.
The IoT system enables users to easily monitor, manage, and optimize energy consumption.
So far, 14 customers have benefited from the program through the LUKU payment system, paying as little as TZS 12,500 per month, equivalent to TZS 150,000 per year, making the technology affordable and accessible.
