The government has pledged to strengthen child-rearing practices and community welfare education to reduce family conflicts, psychological challenges, and mental stress, while promoting strong morals, well-being, and resilience among citizens.
Deputy Minister for Community Development, Gender, Women, and Special Groups, Engineer Maryprisca Mahundi, made the remarks during her visit to the Kisangara Campus of the Institute of Social Welfare in Mwanga District, Kilimanjaro Region. She highlighted the institute’s critical role in training professionals and educating the public on child development, family welfare, and community well-being.
“Strong families are the foundation of a strong society. Through these programs, we aim to reduce mental stress, enhance mental health, and ensure children grow up in safe and morally guided environments,” said Mahundi.
She added that the Ministry will continue partnering with the institute and other stakeholders to expand access to community welfare education, strengthen the capacity of social welfare professionals, and support families and communities in addressing emerging social challenges.
Mwanga District Administrative Secretary, Mpapalike Mfaume, praised the institute for its efforts in providing education and training to the community, noting its positive impact on social welfare and reducing local challenges.
“We will continue working closely with Kisangara Campus to ensure citizens benefit from education and services that promote well-being, strong values, and sustainable development,” Mfaume said.
Earlier, Campus Manager Dr. Leah Mwaisango noted that the institute continues to offer training at multiple levels in social welfare and runs specialized programs for the community. The initiative aims to raise awareness on child upbringing, family welfare, and social services to build a thriving society.
“The institute is committed to producing skilled professionals and empowering citizens to tackle social challenges, improve child-rearing practices, and contribute to community and national development,” Dr. Mwaisango said.
The visit underscores the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen institutions that play a key role in enhancing social welfare, quality child upbringing, mental health, and citizen well-being.
