The Ministry of Energy has officially welcomed Dr. James Mataragio as the new Permanent Secretary responsible for Petroleum and Natural Gas, marking an important step in strengthening the country’s energy sector.
Dr. Mataragio, who began his duties in Dar es Salaam, was formally received by the Minister for Energy, Deogratius Ndejembi, over the past weekend.
Today, February 17, 2026, he was warmly welcomed at the Ministry’s headquarters in Dodoma by the management team, led by the Director of Administration and Human Resources, Ziana Mlawa, along with all ministry staff.
In his new role, Dr. Mataragio will lead efforts to ensure the safe and efficient management of Tanzania’s petroleum and natural gas resources.
He will also champion the adoption of clean and sustainable energy, contributing to national development while improving the lives of Tanzanians.
During the reception, Dr. Mataragio expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome, promising to work with dedication and collaboration to achieve positive results for the country’s energy sector.
This appointment comes at a crucial time as Tanzania continues to develop its energy infrastructure and expand access to reliable, safe, and sustainable energy for all citizens.
