Government leaders, private sector executives and key stakeholders from the mining industry are converging at the Johari Rotana Hotel for the signing of a Special Financing Scheme for small-scale gold miners between CRDB Bank and the Mining Commission.
The high-level ceremony, held on February 23, 2026, marked a significant milestone in efforts to enhance access to financial services for small-scale miners, a group widely recognised for its contribution to employment creation and mineral production in Tanzania.
The Minister for Minerals, Anthony Mavunde (MP), was the guest of honour and officiated the event, describing the initiative as a practical step towards transforming the small-scale mining sub-sector into a more productive, sustainable and economically inclusive industry.
The partnership is designed to address persistent financing challenges facing small-scale gold miners by offering tailor-made financial products, including loans and advisory services, aligned with the realities of mining operations.
Through the scheme, miners are expected to improve productivity, adopt safer and more responsible mining practices, and strengthen their participation in the formal economy.
Under the arrangement, CRDB Bank will provide the financial solutions, while the Mining Commission will play a coordinating and facilitative role to ensure effective implementation and compliance with mining regulations.
Officials said the collaboration reflects the government’s broader strategy to deepen private sector participation in unlocking the full potential of the mining sector.
Stakeholders attending the event welcomed the initiative, noting that limited access to capital has long constrained the growth of small-scale miners despite their central role in gold production.
They expressed optimism that the scheme would not only improve livelihoods but also enhance transparency and value addition within the sector.
The signing ceremony underscores a growing alignment between financial institutions and government regulators in driving inclusive growth and strengthening Tanzania’s mining industry as a key pillar of the national economy.
