Handeni District residents are now experiencing the benefits of clean cooking energy, thanks to a government-led campaign promoting safer and more efficient ways to cook.
The initiative, led by the Ministry of Energy in partnership with the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), aims to have 80% of households using clean cooking energy by 2034.
The campaign team has been visiting local markets and bus terminals, speaking directly with traders and citizens to understand the energy sources they use and to provide guidance on transitioning to clean energy.
Many traders at Chogo Market and the Central Local Market shared that while they use gas when in a hurry, they still rely on traditional fuels like charcoal or firewood for everyday cooking.
The awareness team stressed the importance of using clean energy sources, such as gas and electricity, not only for convenience but also for protecting health and the environment.
As part of the campaign, residents received practical demonstrations showing how gas and electric stoves cook food quickly, safely, and cost-effectively.
Citizens were also invited to taste food prepared using these modern cooking technologies. Many were pleasantly surprised, acknowledging that food cooked with clean energy is just as flavorful if not more than food cooked over wood or charcoal.
This campaign is a step toward healthier homes, cleaner environments, and faster, more efficient cooking for all citizens of Handeni.
