Ambassador Kombo: peace and security unlock opportunities for all Tanzanians

By The Respondents Reporter

Ambassador Mahamoud Thabit Kombo, Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, has emphasized that peace, security, and safety are the foundation for economic growth and prosperity that directly impact Tanzanians.

Speaking to journalists at the State House, he outlined the achievements of President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s recent working visit to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 12–15 February 2026.

Ambassador Kombo explained that Tanzania’s active participation in the 39th African Union (AU) Summit strengthens the country’s influence in continental decision-making, creating real opportunities for citizens in trade, investment, and economic development.

Deputy Minister for Water, Eng. Kundo Mathew, also addressed the press, highlighting developments in the water sector and the benefits Tanzanians stand to gain from improved policies and regional cooperation.

“Without stability, no business can thrive,” Ambassador Kombo said, stressing that Tanzania’s leadership roles in the AU, particularly President Samia’s election as Second Vice-Chairperson, open doors for the country in African and global markets.

He explained that protecting trade routes and ensuring safety is not merely a political issue; it directly lowers business and insurance costs, attracts investors, and creates jobs.

Strong security, he noted, works like a “credit rating” the safer the environment, the cheaper it is to do business, borrow funds, and grow enterprises.

Ambassador Kombo highlighted that the opportunities created by these achievements are already within reach for Tanzanians.

Farmers can expand production of crops that are in high international demand, while businesses can take advantage of reduced costs and increased investor confidence.

Young people and entrepreneurs will benefit from initiatives like Tanzania hosting the African Youth Training Center on Environmental Issues, providing skills and knowledge to compete in growing sectors.

At the same time, President Samia’s leadership as AU Champion for Maternal, Child, and Reproductive Health ensures that Tanzanians’ welfare and social programs have a stronger voice on the continental stage.

Reflecting on Tanzania’s growing influence, Ambassador Kombo said that the country’s diplomatic engagements, including the recent visits to Addis Ababa and Dubai, are not just about prestige.

They are tools to create tangible benefits for citizens by fostering safer trade, economic growth, and greater opportunities.

“These achievements are for every Tanzanian,” he said. “Our peace, our security, and our leadership on the continent are instruments to improve livelihoods, create jobs, and strengthen the future of our nation.”
