The ACT-Wazalendo party has marked five years since the passing of its former National Chairman, Seif Sharif Hamad, with special prayers held in different areas, including Barza Mosque in Zanzibar.

The prayers took place at the mosque located in the Mchambawima area of the Old Town in Zanzibar, and were attended by senior party leaders and members.

Among those present were the party’s current National Chairman Othman Masoud Othman, Zanzibar Vice Chairperson Ismail Jussa, and former National Chairman Juma Duni Haji.

Speaking during the prayers, Hassan Jan Masoud, who worked closely with the late Maalim Seif, said the leader dedicated his life to serving ordinary citizens, promoting justice, and fighting all forms of discrimination.

He emphasized that Maalim Seif consistently called for unity and equal treatment of all Zanzibaris, regardless of political or social differences.

He further noted that Maalim Seif played a key role in advocating for the formation of a Government of National Unity, believing that inclusive leadership was essential for peace, stability, and development that benefits all citizens.

According to him, this vision continues to guide efforts toward strengthening democracy and social cohesion.

Maalim Seif was described as a principled and selfless leader whose values remain relevant today. Speakers urged citizens and political leaders alike to uphold integrity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence principles that defined his political life.

Maalim Seif passed away on 17 February 2021 at Muhimbili National Hospital, while serving as National Chairman of ACT-Wazalendo and First Vice President of Zanzibar.

He is widely remembered for his long-standing contribution to multiparty democracy and his commitment to the rights and welfare of citizens in Tanzania and beyond.

On his part, Nassor Ahmed Mazrui thanked party members and the public for continuing to honor Maalim Seif through prayers, unity, and positive actions that strengthen society.
