Tanzanian giants Yanga SC had a tough start to their CAF Champions League group stage campaign after falling 2-0 to Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly in Cairo on January 23.
The hosts struck first in stoppage time of the first half (45+3) through Mahmoud Trezeguet, giving Al Ahly a crucial lead going into the break.
Yanga had shown defensive discipline in the opening 45 minutes but struggled to convert the limited chances they created.
In the second half, Yanga came out with renewed energy, pressing forward in search of an equalizer.
However, Al Ahly’s experience in continental competitions paid off as they doubled their lead in the 75th minute, with Trezeguet completing his brace to seal the victory.
Despite Yanga’s determined efforts, they were unable to break down the home side’s defense. The match ended 2-0 in favor of Al Ahly, leaving Yanga to reflect on their performance and make tactical adjustments ahead of their remaining group stage fixtures.
